Salary: £31,486 - £34,925 per annum
Hours:
35 hrs per week
Contract:
Permanent. This post is subject to Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership for work with children.
High Life Highland is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Countryside Ranger to join our team in the spectacular landscapes of NW Sutherland. This role replaces a long‑serving ranger who has played a key part in the local community and offers a unique opportunity to work with an award‑winning ranger service.
Responsibilities- As a Countryside Ranger, you will deliver a high‑quality service across countryside and community sites owned or managed by The Highland Council and partners. Your role will support biodiversity, promote responsible outdoor access, and provide engaging environmental education for visitors, schools, and local communities. You will also contribute to citizen science activity, green health projects, and the development of interpretative resources such as guided walks, talks, and online content.
- Regular monitoring of countryside sites and core paths
- Creating and delivering environmental education sessions and school outdoor learning activities
- Developing interpretation, events, walks and digital engagement
- Supporting biodiversity monitoring and citizen science projects
- Promoting the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
- Liaising with landowners, community groups and partner agencies
- Supporting conservation volunteering and green health programmes
- Ensuring safe working practices in line with HLH Health & Safety policy
- Contributing to fundraising through donations, charges, and small grant applications
- Experience as a countryside ranger or in a related community/environmental role
- Ability to work safely and independently in remote, rugged terrain
- Strong communication, organisational, and digital media skills
- Knowledge of wildlife, ecology, and countryside access issues
- Flexible approach, including occasional weekend work
- Full driving licence and ability to travel across the area
