Wildlife Ranger (PB6A Ops)
The Wildlife Ranger works within Forestry England’s wildlife management team toprotect forests, support biodiversity, and uphold high standards of health and safety. A key part of the role involves delivering deer and mammal management in line with district plans, ensuring all carcass handling meets Forestry England and British Quality Wild Venison (BQWV) standards.
The role also contributes to conservation projects, ecological surveys, restocking plans, habitat protection, and liaison with colleagues, stakeholders, sporting tenants, andwoodland users. Rangers produce risk assessments, hazard maps, and supervise wildlife management contracts while maintaining issued equipment to required standards.
Essential skills include experience in deer/wildlife management, land and woodland management, good ecological knowledge, strong communication abilities, competent IT use, and the ability to manage a deer dog. Required qualifications include DMQLevels 1 C 2 with trained hunter status, a police firearms certificate, and a full UK driving licence. Desirable qualifications include wildlife/conservation diplomas, EPS licences, quad bike training, and Forestry First Aid.
