Main duties of the job

The Gardener at a Barchester care home is responsible for maintaining grounds to a high standard, ensuring a positive first impression, and providing outdoor spaces for resident relaxation. Duties include equipment maintenance, ensuring safety through tasks such as snow and ice removal, and planting flowers, shrubs and trees. The role offers an opportunity to participate in the Barchester in Bloom competition, showcasing gardening talents.

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Gardener you will help create a stimulating environment that enables us to deliver quality, person‑centred care. By maintaining our grounds to the highest standards you will ensure our home always makes a great first impression and that our outdoor areas can be fully enjoyed by residents seeking fresh air or a change of scenery. Your role includes looking after equipment and structures such as fencing, keeping our grounds safe and tidy (including clearing snow and ice in winter), and planting a range of flowers, shrubs and trees.

Once a year, you will showcase your talents in the fiercely‑contested Barchester in Bloom competition.

ABOUT YOU A passion for the great outdoors is essential. You will work around the needs of our residents, adopting a patient and empathetic approach. General gardening experience, a good understanding of health and safety, and the ability to use garden treatment chemicals in line with COSHH regulations are required. You should be trustworthy, professional, and a team player who takes a genuine interest in the lives and wellbeing of our residents.
