Gardening Assistant Manager

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Gardening Assistant Manager to join a well-established grounds maintenance business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong horticultural background who is looking to take the next step into a supervisory role.

Working alongside the Operations Manager, you'll help oversee the day-to-day running of the Gardening Department, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This role combines office-based planning with regular site visits and team management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the Gardening Department.
  • Assist with scheduling work and allocating daily workloads.
  • Supervise and support gardening teams across multiple sites.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Produce quotations for grounds maintenance, one-off works and tree services.
  • Deal with customer enquiries and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide guidance and support.
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Cover the Operations Manager during periods of absence.
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing client accounts.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping.
  • Strong knowledge of plants, trees and horticultural practices.
  • Experience using a wide range of gardening machinery.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is desirable.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Proactive, reliable and customer-focused approach.
