Job Purpose
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the operational delivery and continuous development of health, safety, environmental, and fire safety compliance activities across UK Management College campuses.
The postholder supports the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of compliance systems, assurance processes, and safety programmes that enable the College to meet its statutory obligations and maintain safe, compliant, and effective learning and working environments. The role contributes to the development of operational systems and processes that support health, safety, environmental, and fire safety compliance across multiple locations.
The Health & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in conducting inspections, workplace monitoring exercises, compliance assessments, routine audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. The role provides accurate information, analysis, and reports to support decision-making, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Working under the direction of the Health & Safety Advisor, the postholder collaborates with managers, academic departments, professional services teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to identify risks, monitor compliance performance, support assurance activities, and promote a positive culture of health, safety, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance across all campuses.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety and Environmental Monitoring
- Conduct routine health, safety, environmental, and fire safety inspections across College campuses.
- Undertake workplace monitoring exercises, compliance assessments, and safety observations.
- Complete campus walkabouts to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor compliance with College policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Support departments in maintaining safe learning and working environments.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of inspection schedules, monitoring programmes, and compliance tracking systems.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, observations, and monitoring activities.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for review by the Health & Safety Advisor.
- Support the completion, review, and monitoring of workplace risk assessments.
- Assist managers and departments in implementing and reviewing control measures.
- Conduct routine compliance reviews and low-level assurance audits against organisational and legislative requirements.
- Identify areas of non-compliance and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance registers, records, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor progress against compliance action plans and follow up on outstanding actions.
- Escalate significant risks, hazards, and compliance concerns where appropriate.
- Support environmental compliance activities and monitoring requirements.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of fire safety arrangements across all campuses.
- Assist in coordinating fire drills, evacuation exercises, and emergency preparedness activities.
- Conduct routine checks of fire exits, evacuation routes, emergency signage, and fire safety equipment.
- Maintain fire safety records, logs, and statutory documentation.
- Monitor completion of fire safety actions arising from inspections and assessments.
- Support the review and implementation of emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
- Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, hazards, unsafe acts, and near misses.
- Gather evidence, witness statements, photographs, and supporting documentation.
