Food Safety And Quality Manager

Pilgrim's Europe is seeking an experienced and passionate Food Safety & Quality Manager to join our Technical team in Llanidloes.

This is a key leadership position responsible for driving food safety, quality, legality and compliance standards across the site. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will lead and develop the Food Safety & Quality team, ensuring products consistently meet customer specifications, legislative requirements, and company standards.

Working closely with Production, Hygiene and Technical teams, you will champion a positive food safety culture, deliver continuous improvement initiatives and ensure the highest standards are maintained throughout the operation.

• Lead, motivate and develop the Food Safety & Quality team, providing day-to-day direction and support.
• Ensure inspection, monitoring and quality verification activities are completed accurately and at the required frequency.
• Promote a strong food safety, quality and compliance culture across all areas of the business.
• Work collaboratively with Production and Operational teams to consistently deliver products that meet agreed customer specifications.
• Ensure compliance with Food Safety Quality Management Systems (FSQMS), legislative requirements, customer standards and company policies.
• Liaise with external bodies including the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Official Veterinarian (OV) to support site compliance.
• Monitor factory hygiene and housekeeping standards, working closely with the Hygiene Manager to drive continuous improvement.
• Lead Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audits, start-up checks and food safety inspections.
• Manage non-conforming product processes, ensuring appropriate segregation, investigation and disposition.
• Analyse and report quality performance data and KPIs to the site leadership team.
• Ensure monitoring equipment is maintained and operating effectively to protect product integrity.
• Support customer, regulatory and third-party audits.
• Develop and deliver training programmes to ensure team competence and compliance.
• Participate in daily operational meetings and contribute to site performance improvement initiatives.
• Drive a positive Health & Safety culture, ensuring "Safety is a Condition" remains at the forefront of site activity.

• Experience with in a food manufacturing, food production or FMCG environment.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Strong understanding of food safety, quality and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a calm and logical approach.
• Ability to identify non-compliances and implement effective corrective actions.
• Good numeracy, literacy and IT skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
