Position: Community Research Officer (ARC 2)
Location: Bailrigg

Overview

The National Institute for Health and Care Research Applied Research Collaboration North West Coast (NIHR ARC NWC) is a research initiative designed to support applied health and care research across the North West Coast region, focusing on reducing health inequalities, knowledge mobilisation and translating evidence into practice.

Role Overview

The Community Research Officer will facilitate engagement with Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations across the North West Coast region, building a network of research‑active VCFSE organisations and research‑ready communities. Working within the public involvement and engagement team, the Officer will ensure the delivery of the Community Research and Engagement Network (CoREN) objectives and support the commissioning and delivery of research by CoREN members.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate engagement with VCFSE organisations across the North West Coast region.
  • Build and maintain a network of research‑active VCFSE organisations and research‑ready communities.
  • Ensure delivery of CoREN objectives and support the commissioning and delivery of research by CoREN members.
  • Manage study documentation and produce excellent reports.
  • Apply problem‑solving and organisational skills to prioritise work and manage time effectively.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency with basic software packages (Excel, Word) and database maintenance.
  • Work co‑operatively and flexibly with colleagues, undertaking appropriate administrative responsibilities.
  • Plan, organise and manage meetings or events in person and online.
Qualifications and Experience
  • First‑degree level education or equivalent in a discipline related to health research.
  • Experience and knowledge of the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector.
  • Strong report‑writing and documentation management skills.
  • Evidence of problem‑solving, prioritisation, and time‑management capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer literate with experience of creating, maintaining and producing data from databases.

Contract and Funding

The position is available to start from September
2026. The contract is indefinite; however, the role is contingent on external funding which is due to end on 31

March
2031. Flexible working arrangements, including working week, days/hours worked, and start/finish times, will be discussed.
