Consultant​/Senior Archaeological and Heritage Consultant | Water

You will join our Archaeology and Heritage Team within the Environmental Assessment group, working across the UK on projects for major water, highways and infrastructure clients. This is genuinely varied work, from data searches and desk-based assessments to client liaison, negotiation with local planning authority and national-level archaeological and heritage advisors, risk analysis and the formulation of mitigation strategies for schemes ranging from the small-scale to the nationally significant.

At Consultant level, you will support historic environment inputs across a range of project types, including site-specific heritage statements, planning-led development schemes, utilities diversions, localised water and wastewater upgrades, highway improvement schemes, constraints mapping and walkover surveys. You will contribute to research, baseline assessment, screening and mitigation inputs under the guidance of more experienced colleagues, developing your expertise across the full range of Stantec project scales.

GIS skills are desirable, particularly for data searches, constraints mapping and heritage screening.

At the Senior Consultant level, you will take the lead on more complex and higher-risk schemes, managing small to medium-sized projects or defined technical work streams and providing technical assurance of archaeological fieldwork, contractor outputs and mitigation deliverables. You will draw on a working knowledge of EIA, DCO and NSIP processes, lead historic environment inputs for major water, highways and infrastructure projects, and apply your judgement to nationally significant schemes by advising on risk, consultation strategy and mitigation requirements.

You will also train, mentor and review the work of more junior colleagues.

Across both levels, you will work within professional, collaborative, multidisciplinary teams, all focused on delivering world-class solutions for clients and the communities around them.

The archaeology and heritage advice you provide will shape how some of the UK's largest and most iconic infrastructure projects engage with the historic environment. Your assessments and mitigation strategies will ensure that what lies beneath is understood, respected and, where possible, preserved for future generations.

You hold a degree in Archaeology or a heritage-related subject, and you are ideally a corporate member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists, or working towards membership within twelve months of appointment.

You bring sound multi-period knowledge of the British historic environment resource and a solid understanding of the UK's legislative, consultancy and national planning policy framework. You write reports clearly and to a high standard, and you approach client relationships with the focus and professionalism that complex, high-profile projects demand.
