Catering Assistant

Location: PO22 8ER

Pay Rate: 13.50 per hour
Hours: Typically 10:00am - 1:00pm
Start Date: 1st September 2026
Initial Booking: 2 weeks, with the opportunity for long-term work
DBS: Enhanced DBS required

We are currently looking for Catering Assistants to work in schools within the PO22 8ER
area.

This is a great opportunity for reliable and enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working as part of a team and would like to gain experience within a school catering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety and Hygiene

• Follow all Health & Safety, Food Safety, hygiene and allergen legislation and school procedures.
• Use cleaning chemicals safely in line with COSHH requirements.
• Report accidents, hazards and faulty equipment immediately.
• Keep kitchens, dining areas, equipment, dishes, tables and service areas clean and hygienic.
• Wear appropriate uniform and PPE at all times.
• Complete required records and log book entries.

Food Preparation and Cooking

• Assist with basic food preparation and cooking as directed.
• Prepare and serve meals in line with agreed recipes, standards and dietary requirements.
• Monitor and record food, fridge, freezer, hot cabinet and servery temperatures.
• Store food and deliveries correctly and maintain clean preparation and cooking areas.
• Keep all required training up to date.

Customer Service

• Provide friendly and professional service to pupils, school staff and colleagues.
• Help create a welcoming environment and present food to a high standard.
• Operate the till where required.

Nutrition, Allergens and Dietary Needs

• Follow procedures relating to allergies, cultural, religious and special dietary requirements.
• Promote healthy eating and comply with current allergen legislation.

Teamwork

• Work effectively as part of the catering team and communicate important information.
• Take pride in your work and support colleagues when required.

Safeguarding and Confidentiality

• Maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity at all times.
• Follow school mobile phone and safeguarding procedures.
• Promote the welfare of pupils and report any safeguarding concerns immediately.
