Position: Buyer - Retail FMCG - 12 month Fixed Term Contract
Location: Lark Hill

We're looking for a Buyer who has managed an FMCG category to join our commercial team. Based at our Customer Support Centre in Walsall, this fixed‑term contract role is 12 months on a hybrid basis.

About the Role

As a Buyer, you’ll support our Senior Buyer to drive performance across your FMCG category – ensuring the right products land in store at the right time and price. You will manage everything from building category strategies, supplier negotiations and management, sales analysis, range planning to managing the critical path.

You’ll take the lead on your assigned category, ensuring success through effective planning, budgeting and negotiating. Taking an essential role in our product journey, without you, our customers wouldn’t be able to shop the ranges they love.

Key Accountabilities
  • Identifying, creating, and developing new range opportunities that form a robust and successful plan.
  • Interpreting key customer insights and data to react to market trends and shopping habits.
  • Meeting suppliers and attending trade fairs to build relationships, negotiate cost of goods, and explore new opportunities.
  • Seeking out opportunities or threats, resolving issues, and making recommendations for action while working closely with the broader commercial team to manage critical paths.
  • Being accountable for developing category strategies, including research and analysis such as spend analysis and cost benchmarking.
Role Requirements
  • Experienced Buyer from a Retail FMCG background.
  • Expert negotiator who builds strong working relationships.
  • Comfortable with being agile to changing priorities.
  • Strong understanding of the sector and competitors.
  • Thorough understanding of the Critical Path and Supply Chain Process.
  • Experience delivering strategies and plans with associated targets, KPIs, performance monitoring, reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
