General Assistant Volunteer – Shop

Your local British Red Cross shop offers a range of activities for volunteers. From sorting stock and preparing donated items for sale to providing great customer service, you will play a key role in keeping our shop running smoothly.

• Check the quality of donated items and prepare them for sale or recycling.
• Iron, clean, label, and price items ready for sale.
• Keep the shop well‑organised and tidy.
• Help with general shop tasks.

• No previous experience is needed – full training is provided.
• There is no expectation to use a till or computer in this volunteering role.

• A few hours per week – please discuss with the shop manager.
• No minimum commitment or fixed hours; we only ask that you agree on hours you can reliably attend and inform us if they change.

We have an expenses policy that prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for role‑related expenses. If upfront costs are difficult, speak with your volunteering manager for alternatives.

We provide an individual approach to safety. A simple risk assessment may be required and we will discuss any adjustments you need. Some locations may not host 15–17 year olds; contact us for suitable opportunities.
