Sales Director - Timber

An established and successful timber importer and manufacturer is looking to appoint an experienced Sales Director to lead and develop its commercial function.

With a strong heritage in the timber industry, the business imports, processes and distributes a wide range of sawn and machined timber products, including specialist softwoods, cladding, treated timber and bespoke machined products. Its customer base spans construction, manufacturing, joinery, landscaping, leisure, agriculture and other specialist sectors.

This is a key leadership appointment for an ambitious commercial professional who can build on an established customer base while identifying new markets, developing strategic relationships and driving sustainable revenue growth.

As Sales Director, you will take responsibility for the overall sales strategy and commercial performance of the business.

You will lead the sales function, develop existing customer relationships and create new business opportunities across a diverse range of markets. Working closely with the wider leadership team, you will play a key role in shaping the company's future growth strategy.

• Develop and implement the company's sales and commercial strategy
• Lead, manage and develop the sales team
• Drive revenue growth across existing and new customer markets
• Identify and develop new business opportunities across the timber and building products sectors
• Build strong, long-term relationships with key customers and strategic accounts
• Develop relationships with manufacturers, distributors, contractors and end users
• Analyse market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities
• Identify new sectors, products and routes to market
• Manage the sales pipeline, forecasting and commercial performance
• Set clear sales targets and KPIs
• Work closely with operations, purchasing and production teams to ensure customer requirements are met
• Negotiate commercial agreements and maintain strong margins
• Represent the business at industry events and with key customers
• Report on commercial performance and provide strategic recommendations to the senior leadership team

The successful candidate will be an experienced sales leader with a proven track record of growing revenue, developing teams and building long-term customer relationships.

Experience with in timber, building materials, construction products, manufacturing, distribution or a related sector would be highly advantageous.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience in a senior sales or commercial leadership role
• Experience managing and developing a sales team
• A strong track record of winning new business and growing existing accounts
• Experience working with products sold into construction, manufacturing or related markets
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
• The ability to identify new markets and develop strategic growth opportunities
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to sales leadership
• The ability to work strategically while remaining close to customers and the sales process
