Custody Detention Officer

This role supports the Police in custody suites, caring for detainees during their time in custody, completing forensic samples, and working with other agencies to support detainees' rehabilitation.

• Support detainees in custody suites, including physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs.
• Escort detainees and record observations per individual plan.
• Collaborate with Police officers and Senior Custody Detention Officers to manage detainee risk.
• Use computer and various programs competently during the working day.
• Work across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area.

• Previous Police, Security or armed forces experience beneficial but not required.
• Reasonable level of spoken and written English and basic numeracy.
• Competent in IT and using a computer.
• Full valid driving licence.
• Right to work in UK (British passport or ILR for 3 years; no gaps out of the country > 3 months).
• Subject to police vetting checks – clean driving record and criminal record essential.

Salary: £29,455.58 per annum.

Full‑time shift pattern: 4 shifts on, 4 days off; day shifts 06:45‑19:00 for 2 days followed by 2 night shifts 18:45‑07:00; rolling rota available 2 years in advance.

Bonus: £150 referral for each successful colleague recruited.

Training: 3‑week Initial Training Course on full pay plus continued development.

Career progression to Senior Custody Detention Officer and potential team management.
