Our client Leeds City Council is looking for a Local Area Designated Officer to join their LADO service.
Job purpose & context:
Respond effectively and confidently to allegations against people who work with children within the Local Authority area, from all organisations offering a service to children. To work collaboratively with all relevant organisations for the safeguarding and protection of children and young people. To provide an overview to senior managers across all services and agencies contributing to the care and protection of young people, of the extent and nature of allegations against people working with children and young people
Accountabilities:
- First point of contact for all allegations made against people who work with children and young people and decide on most appropriate action.
- Chair strategy meetings concerning allegations made against people who work with children and young people.
- Ensure strategy meetings are convened within the required timescales, and that relevant professionals are invited.
- Maintain an information database in relation to all allegations, advice given, actions taken, and decisions made, and produce appropriate Management Reports.
- Monitor the progress of cases, to ensure that they are dealt with as quickly as possible within set timescales, and consistent with a thorough and fair process.
- Provide advice and guidance to Senior Managers within the Local Authority, and to other employers and voluntary organisations.
- Chair Secure Criteria Reviews when required.
- Chair Strategy Meetings re professional abuse, and other strategy meetings as determined by the Dept.
- Deputise for members of the Integrated Safeguarding Unit in chairing Child Protection Conferences and Looked After Reviews.
- Represent the Service in activities of relevant strategic partnerships, such as the Safeguarding Board (including membership of subgroups and preparation of Serious Case Reviews) and the Multi Agency Looked After Partnership.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Service Delivery Manager.
Skills, knowledge & experience:
- Passing on information effectively, accurately and concisely.
- Analyse complex situations and make considered decisions.
- Analyse and understand statistical information.
- Preparing and presenting reports on complex issues to a variety of different audiences.
- Chairing multi-disciplinary meetings with a high level of complexity, and which may involve conflict.
- Developing constructive working relationships with other Agencies.
- Working in a specialist role with a high degree of autonomy.
Ensure that appropriate legislation, guidance and procedures, are correctly adhered to by a wide range of other professionals in the management of complex investigations
