Are you experienced, positive and solutions-focused?
Do you have a passion for supporting people involved with the Criminal Justice System and helping them make meaningful, lasting changes?

If so, Camau could be the role for you.

About the role

Camau is an HMPPS-commissioned service delivered by Forward Trust across Gwent, South Wales and Dyfed Powys. We support people in the criminal justice system to successfully transition back into the community and address the barriers that can contribute to homelessness and reoffending.

As a Camau Support Worker, you will:

  • Work directly with people subject to Community Supervision and Rehabilitation Activity Requirements.
  • Support individuals leaving custody to prepare for a successful return to the community.
  • Work with people on remand who are awaiting sentencing.
  • Help people find, access and sustain suitable accommodation.
  • Identify barriers to successful resettlement and develop practical solutions.
  • Provide personalised, strengths-based and person-centred support.
  • Build trusting, professional relationships with service users.
  • Work closely with HMPPS Probation Practitioners and other agencies.
  • Provide a high-quality wraparound service, connecting people with appropriate support.
  • Advocate on behalf of service users and help them access relevant services.
  • Support people to address issues that may impact their ability to maintain stability and avoid reoffending.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to effective risk management and safeguarding.
  • Attend probation offices, prisons and Approved Premises across South Wales where required.

What we're looking for

  • We're looking for someone who is:
  • Positive, resilient and solutions-focused.
  • Passionate about preventing homelessness and reducing reoffending.
  • Experienced in supporting people with complex or multiple needs.
  • Confident working with people involved in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Skilled at building positive relationships and engaging people who may be difficult to reach.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team.
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek advice or escalate concerns.
  • Committed to equality, diversity, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Able to see the person beyond their circumstances and support people to recognise their strengths and potential.

It is a full-time Cardiff PDU role. Despite this - they will be working under the South Wales team and may be required to travel to different locations and will required to be key trained in all of our South Wales prisons.
