Swindon Borough Council are on an exciting journey to transform service delivery. We want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that's who we're doing it for - the communities and businesses that make our town great.

As part of the Council, you'll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It's all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

Your next role

We’re looking for a proactive, customer-focused and community-minded Tenancy Housing Officer to join our Housing Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality tenancy management services that help residents sustain their tenancies and create safe, clean and thriving neighbourhoods across Swindon. Working within a designated patch, you’ll become a trusted local face of the Council, building positive relationships with residents, understanding local issues and working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to deliver excellent housing services.

You’ll manage a varied caseload covering all aspects of tenancy management, including new tenancy visits, tenancy audits, property inspections, succession, assignment, tenancy changes and tenancy terminations. You’ll work proactively to identify support needs, help resolve tenancy issues at an early stage and take appropriate tenancy enforcement action where breaches occur, including supporting legal proceedings where necessary.

You’ll contribute to service improvement by maintaining accurate records, using data to inform decision making and helping shape modern, efficient housing services.

We're looking for someone who has:
  • Experience of delivering tenancy management, housing management or a similar customer-focused housing service.
  • Excellent communication, customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise competing demands.
  • Experience of investigating tenancy issues and taking appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy management and social housing practice, or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with internal teams and external partner agencies.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and use housing management systems.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service and supporting residents to sustain successful tenancies.
  • A proactive approach to improving neighbourhoods and building positive community relationships.

You must be fluent in the English language (as required by Part 7 of the Immigration Act for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

You will need to hold a full UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle and appropriate business insurance. Please confirm this in your supporting statement.

The team operates a hybrid working model with all expected to be in the office for a minimum of two days per week.

You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

Your next package

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.
