Social Worker – Children & Families | St Helena Island, South Atlantic
Two-year fixed-term contract | Starting January 2027 | Up to £59,000 per annum

Leaders in Care is recruiting for a Social Worker to join the Children & Families team within the St Helena Public Service. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful, visible difference within a close-knit island community while developing your practice in a varied and rewarding statutory setting.
The roleYou’ll manage a diverse children’s social-care caseload, delivering high-quality, strengths-based support to children, young people and their families. Your work will include:
- Completing timely assessments and care planning
- Undertaking child-in-need and child-protection work
- Preparing reports for court and contributing to reviews
- Working closely with partner agencies through multi-agency meetings
- Supporting children and families to achieve safe, sustainable outcomes
- Bringing sound professional judgement and a child-centred approach to complex cases

About youTo be considered, you’ll need:
- A recognised UK social-work qualification, such as aBA/MA in Social Workor
DipSW Current Social Work England registration(or equivalent) - At leasttwo years’ post-ASYE experience in children’s social care
- Experience managing statutory children and families cases, including safeguarding
- A full UK driving licence The ability to obtain an enhanced disclosure
- You’ll be adaptable, resilient and comfortable working in a smaller service where collaboration, initiative and a practical approach are valued.
The package is worth up to £59,000 per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience, and includes an international supplement based on family status.
You’ll also receive:
- Relocation support and freight allowance, up to a standard 20-foot container Start- and end-of-contract economy flights
- A mid-contract flight for assignments of 18 months or longer
- Pension contribution 30 days’ annual leave plus 10 public holidays
- Medical and dental treatment through the local public-health scheme
- Schooling provision for dependent children aged 3–16
