across scotland, prison-based social work is being strengthened in recognition of its vital role in supporting rehabilitation, reintegration and public protection. As part of this investment, we are expanding our team and recruiting to five new posts.
as one of scotland's long-term prison establishments, hmp shotts offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful, relationship-based practice with individuals over extended periods, supporting change, progression and preparation for release.
the role
as a social worker at hmp shotts, you will undertake assessment, intervention and case management with individuals in custody, contribute to risk assessment and public protection processes, and support sentence progression, rehabilitation and release planning. You'll work collaboratively with prison staff, healthcare, psychology and community partners to help individuals make positive, lasting changes in their lives.

about you
you'll hold a recognised social work qualification (cqsw, dipsw, ba (hons) social work, or equivalent), have and be registered (or eligible for registration) with the sssc. Pvg scheme membership is required before prior to commencing in this role.
we are seeking skilled social workers with strong communication and report-writing skills, a sound values base, and the ability to build trust and confidence to ensure delivery of positive outcomes.
successful candidates will join a supportive and experienced team, help shape the future of prison-based social work at hmp shotts, and benefit from ongoing professional development and progression to senior practitioner status where eligible.
working patterns:
4 posts (full time):
monday - thursday: 08:45am - 16:45pm
friday: 08:45am - 16:15pm
1 post (part time):
will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

* for all casual/sessional roles, you will receive 12.1% of your hourly rate for every hour worked in total recompense for annual leave, including public holidays. These rates will be indicated separately on your payslip. You will only be paid for the hours that you work.
