Refuse Loader

We are entering exciting times in waste collection, with separate food collections and Simpler Recycling, where we will be collecting a wider range of recyclable materials and we want you to be part of the journey. The job may require you to work on our large fleet of refuse and recycling vehicles, alongside our brand‑new fleet of state‑of‑the‑art food waste collection vehicles.

As a Refuse & Recycling Loader you will:

• Provide a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of the residents and community in West Northumberland.
• Ensure that general waste and recycling is collected as per schedule and streets, homes and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to all members of the community that we serve.
• Be willing to go the extra mile whilst on your rounds and hold plenty of enthusiasm and a big smile.
• Cope with the regular high level of physical demand and maintain general awareness to ensure safe working conditions.
• Represent Northumberland County Council front‑line, keeping the area remaining beautiful, safe and a clean place to live and work.
• Work as part of the wider refuse collection team – a team player.
• Punctual – turn up for work on time, ready for the day ahead.

• Relevant knowledge of the range of tasks, together with the operation of associated tools and equipment and an appreciation and interest in the need for the service.
• Strength, dexterity and coordination to manoeuvre bins and operate hydraulics and the specialist skills associated with the operation of hydraulic equipment.

• 26 days annual leave plus public/bank holidays, rising to 31 days after 5 years of service (pro rata for part‑time employees).
