Position: Train Driver (Intermodal)
Location: Basford

Drive trains in accordance with Rules & Regulations, Competency Based Standards for Train Driving and Freightliner’s Defensive Driving Policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend and report for duty at the time and place directed, ensuring you are physically fit to carry out the duties of a Train Driver.
  • Operate traction in an unsupervised, safe manner.
  • Absorb and retain knowledge of traction, routes, rules and regulations, and operating notices.
  • Adjust driving technique to suit prevailing conditions such as weather and rail conditions.
  • Remain vigilant in observing all signals applicable to train movements and immediately report any irregularities to the signalman concerned.
  • When a delay occurs, seek an explanation from the signalman to inform relevant parties with up‑to‑date information.
  • Report to Network Rail or the controlling signalman any incidents that could impact the safety of the line, prompting necessary actions or protections.
  • Carry out emergency procedures when required, including initial HABD examinations and use of Tempilstik.
  • Sign, maintain, and read all notices and publications affecting our Traincrew Route Knowledge, and keep them updated for traction and route safety.
  • Wear full uniform and safety clothing as supplied.
  • Respond to service faults and failures, reporting as necessary to Freightliner Control and/or the Help Line.
  • Serve as Acting Standards Manager on an as‑needed basis (see Standards Manager JD).
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Supervisor or Manager.
