The role of the Warehouse Operator is to support the Warehouse management in the day‑to‑day running of the warehouse. The position maintains high standards of operation, supports the main factory with the goods and parts required for their day‑to‑day running, and performs additional duties as needed while upholding safety and operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities- Operate forklifts – follow all safety standards and company protocols, carry out daily inspections, and ensure forklifts remain in good working order. Move goods around the warehouse and to the factory, and handle loading and unloading of vehicles.
- Inventory Control – assist management with regular stock checks (cycle counts); ensure stock quantities are correct, properly located, and marked up accurately.
- Deliveries – record GRN for all goods that arrive; verify that delivery notes match the goods delivered; report discrepancies in paperwork or damaged goods to management.
- Prepare Shipments – prepare all shipments for collection and confirm that the paperwork matches the dispatched items.
- COSHH – store all COSHH items in their correct locations as per company guidance.
- Warehouse Maintenance – keep the warehouse tidy, store equipment when not in use, report any damage promptly, and apply best practices to ensure smooth operation.
- Coordinate – work with management on other warehouse duties as required.
- Safety – maintain high standards of safety within the working environment.
- Waste – support on‑site waste management activities.
- Experience – minimum of 2 years of experience is desirable, but training will be provided if needed.
- Good organisational and time‑management skills.
- Forklift licence – training will be provided if not held.
- Proficiency with inventory software, databases, and ERP systems – training will be provided if required.
- Good written and oral English, and numeracy skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects.
- Capability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Flexibility – able to change tasks on short notice.
- Problem‑solving – work independently where required.
- Basic computer skills for data entry using ERP software.
- Quality control – check and recognize goods that do not meet required standards.
- Willingness to learn new skills and support other team members.
- Good time‑keeping.
Sumitomo Electric is a global leader in high‑end electricity transmission cables, including 525kV HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) cable. The new factory at Nigg, with a £350M investment announced by the Scottish Government, will contribute significantly to the UK Net Zero Target by enhancing electricity transmission infrastructure and connecting renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind, to UK consumers. The factory will create more than 150 skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands and maximise utilisation of the local supply chain for cable production and transmission cable system construction.
