Overview
Temporary - Program Specialist - Math Success. Mendocino-Lake Community College District is seeking a Short-Term, Non-Continuing Program Specialist - Math Success position. This is a temporary, non-continuing position open until filled. The role supports student achievement and persistence in mathematics with a focus on equity and targeted academic support.
Salary: 30 hours per week, $25.22 per hour. Benefits:
Bronze level plan at the cost of the employee. Paid Time Off: 40 hours sick leave per fiscal year. Retirement:
CalPERS eligibility may apply based on hours worked.
- Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities and/or programs.
- Designs and delivers presentations and workshops as required.
- Serves as a liaison between Mendocino College and appropriate stakeholders.
- Disseminates information on the program.
- Coordinates schedules and makes appointments for stakeholders and program resources.
- Participates in department meetings and provides information/reports on relevant issues.
- Assists and supports stakeholders regarding program processes and sourcing other available programs and services.
- Prepares and maintains correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; maintains and organizes records and files; submits required paperwork timely.
- Operates office equipment including a computer and Microsoft Office software.
- Attends required meetings and professional development sessions as directed by the manager.
- Occasionally travels to off-site locations for program needs; may include evening or weekend hours to meet student needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Provide proactive, individualized academic support to students who are currently struggling in math, repeating a math course, or experiencing math anxiety.
- Develop and deliver workshops or one-on-one sessions on math study skills (e.g., time management, test-taking strategies, growth mindset, Canvas).
- Collaborate with math faculty, tutors, and counselors to create a coordinated support network for students.
- Refer students to tutoring, counseling, and disability support services.
- Monitor student progress and follow up to provide encouragement and additional assistance as needed.
- Support student persistence through personalized academic coaching and outreach.
- Assist in data collection and reporting related to student progress and success outcomes.
- Participate in professional development related to math instruction, student support services, and equity-focused practices.
- May include occasional evening or weekend hours to meet student needs.
- Associate’s degree in a STEM field, education, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated understanding of challenges faced by community college students, especially those from historically underrepresented and underserved populations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse academic environment.
- Experience working with students who have math anxiety or learning challenges.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or education.
- Experience in a California community college or similar higher education setting.
- Background in math instruction or tutoring.
- Familiarity with academic success strategies and learning theories related to mathematics.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Valid Class C driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Access to a personal vehicle for travel within Lake and Mendocino Counties (mileage reimbursement possible).
Working ConditionsOffice environment with interruptions; physical demands include sitting, reaching, bending, walking, standing for long periods, and light lifting up to 25 lbs. May require occasional outdoor exposure and flexible hours.
