Under direction performs, develops and coordinates, supervises and implements the Women Infants, and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program. Performs a variety of clerical, analytical, and technical tasks related to nutrition programs, including, but not limited to, research, program development, assessment, contract monitoring, and grant proposal development.

Supervisor Academy is mandatory for all supervisors and consists of nine courses that must be completed within two years. Participation is required and completed during work hours.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with policies, procedures and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring and training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, reviews, and controls work production and activities, to include procedures, allocation of resources, problem resolution, and training of employees.
  • Coordinates W.I.C./nutrition staffing at other sites.
  • Researches state and federal laws regulating provision of nutrition program services; evaluates and interprets recent nutrition research; prepares comprehensive narrative reports on issues related to nutrition.
  • Researches grants, develop proposals and completes project and grant evaluation requirements related to assigned duties.
  • Compiles, reviews, and develops nutrition reference and education material that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for dissemination to the public, including reports, pamphlets, exhibits, and news releases.
  • Assists with preparation of the WIC grant reapplication and budget.
  • Provides consultation to physicians, public health nurses and other department personnel regarding nutritional requirements and problems of the public and individual patients.
  • Contacts community agencies and groups to plan, develop, and promote nutritional health programs.
  • Collaborates with surrounding counties and communities on nutrition and health education.
  • Gathers, evaluates, and completes quarterly, annual, and final reports.
  • Plans and develops community events to promote assigned health programs.
  • Prepares, coordinates, schedules, and conducts presentations before school groups, community organizations, youth groups, and other interested people.
  • Participates in assessing community health needs and resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition Science, Clinical Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics or related field; and, two (2) years of progressively responsible experience;

Or,

An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Valid driver’s license

Current registration as a Registered Dietitian, issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association.

Knowledge of
  • Administration of staff and activities, either directly or through subordinate supervision.
  • Clinical nutrition and human physiology.
  • Nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating women, infants, and children to age of five (5) years.
  • Strategies for nutrition/breast-feeding education and counseling.
  • Basic methods of assessing nutritional status of clients.
  • Community agencies and resources.
  • Internal departmental policies and procedures.
  • Interviewing techniques.
  • State W.I.C. computer program.
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
