Northern Spotted Owl Surveyor

Position Overview

Bush wacker Ecological is hiring people to conduct surveys for Spotted Owls on forest lands near Reedsport/Coos Bay Oregon. The ad will remain posted until positions are filled.

Previous experience working with wildlife is desirable. Pay rates would range between $20-25 depending on experience. Bush wacker will provide vehicle and equipment. The expected employment period would be from early March through the mid to end of August. Work hours would be approximately 40-50 hrs/week, with a combination of night surveys (~ 4-5 nights a week) and day hikes to monitor known sites, survey areas inaccessible from roads and follow‑up on owl responses.

The work is physically demanding requiring some old roads to be walked at night and also daytime hiking off trail in the forest. Some weekend work may be required to meet deadlines. Work hours for owl surveys are generally approximately 7-9 PM to 4-6 AM but employees will need to be flexible.
