CNA Certification Program – Masonic Homes of California

The Masonic Homes of California offers a CNA training program in partnership with Unitek at the Union City campus. Qualified applicants who join Masonic Homes may qualify for a scholarship covering tuition and other associated costs to pursue this program.

NA100T-Nursing Assistant Theory:
This course introduces concepts of basic human needs, the health/illness continuum, and basic nursing skills and procedures required in the nursing assistant role. The theory and role of the nursing assistant working with various populations in long-term care facilities and acute care settings will be discussed. This course includes 60 hours of online instructor-led synchronous learning.

NA100L
- Nursing Assistant Skills Lab:
This course introduces the skills and procedures required to show competency to become a certified nursing assistant in the state of California. It includes skills demonstrations, hands-on practice, instructor-led activities in a supervised laboratory setting, and orientation to a clinical setting. This course consists of 4 skills lab days.

NA100C
- Nursing Assistant Clinical Rotation:
This course provides hands-on applications related to the material in NA100T. It includes 100 hours of approved instructor-led clinical care in a long-term care setting.

Upon successful completion, candidates are eligible to take the State Competency Evaluation for Nursing Assistants. Students may test in the skills lab setting with an approved vendor and evaluators. Individuals who complete the examination are placed on the California State Nursing Assistant Registry.

• Assists residents to ensure cleanliness, grooming, nourishment, rest, activity, mobility, transfer, and elimination in a manner consistent with the resident’s plan of care.
• Respects the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of residents, including religious beliefs.
• Adapts care to resident strengths and abilities, modeling appropriate behavioral intervention techniques.
• Keeps alert to residents’ conditions and reports changes to the nurse in charge.
• Performs selected nursing procedures that do not require professional evaluation as assigned by the nurse in charge.
• Conserves equipment and supplies and reports needs to the nurse in charge.
• Ensures call lights/alarms are accessible and responds promptly; makes rounds to assigned residents.
• Assists residents in recreational activities and escorts to medical appointments as requested.
• Keeps written notes and enters resident data in the medical record promptly and accurately.
• Communicates and cooperates with coworkers, residents, and other staff; demonstrates good teamwork.
• Maintains attendance and punctuality; follows safety policies.
• Conveys information concisely and professionally; responds with attentiveness and diplomacy.
• Active participation in meetings and education programs.

• Maintains residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, privacy, self-determination, and civil rights;
• Maintains confidentiality of resident care information;
• Reports incidents/accidents and unsafe conditions immediately; keeps work area clean, orderly, and safe.
