Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill‑gas‑to‑energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the U.S. The team specializes in developing, constructing, and operating RNG, landfill‑gas‑to‑electric, and dairy digester facilities across more than 50 sites in 32 states.
The RoleAt our Northwest Tennessee Renewable Natural Gas Plant in Union City, TN, the RNG Operator will operate and maintain the landfill‑gas‑to‑High‑BTU processing facility, including the landfill gas process, gas compressors, CO₂ removal system, thermal oxidizers, and H₂S removal systems. The operator is responsible for instrument and control repair, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
Key Accountabilities- Own safe operation of the plant during the assigned shift while maintaining compliance with SOPs and safety/environmental standards.
- Inspect plant equipment, record operational data, compare trends, and make necessary corrections.
- Review daily operating reports and other records to ensure specified operating characteristics are met.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on plant instrumentation and equipment.
- Detect and correct faulty mechanical and electrical components.
- Operate sophisticated instrumentation and process control systems.
- Test electrical systems and continuity with appropriate instruments.
- Repair electrical wiring up to 480 V and modify equipment as required.
- Advise the Lead Operation Technician and Regional Manager of shutdowns or major power output changes.
- Maintain all plant equipment and structures per manufacturer and Archaea Energy guidelines.
- Keep the plant workspace clean, including the building, control room, rest room, break room, and grounds.
- Log daily operations according to prescribed standards.
- Assist in planning maintenance and outage activities.
- Assist in defining, ordering, and procuring required parts.
- Respond promptly to callouts and work overtime as needed.
- Perform analytical tests (e.g., pH, conductivity, methane, H₂S, moisture) as needed.
- Support hazardous waste handling in accordance with training and regulations.
- Travel 25‑50% per month (initially 50% for the first 12 months at a new plant, reducing to 25% thereafter).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Intermediate electrical, chemical, and mechanical experience.
- Minimum of 1‑3 years in landfill gas processing, chemical plant operations, industrial gas operations, or power plant operations.
- Knowledge of process control systems for landfill gas collection and processing.
- Technical/problem‑solving skills and ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
- Experience with pressure, level, flow, and temperature sensors and their calibration.
- Basic math, gas chemistry, piping, and instrumentation drawing knowledge.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with computers (MS Word, Excel, email) and measurement tools.
- Hands‑on mechanical and process equipment experience.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass hearing and DOT drug testing.
Base pay: $31‑$32 per hour.
Paid vacation: 120‑240 hours per year for full‑time employees, 60‑240 hours for part‑time. You also qualify for nine paid holidays, two personal‑choice holidays, and up to eight weeks of paid parental leave.
