Cochran's Union, Missouri headquarters is looking for a Geotechnical Engineering Technician to join our team.
We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with experience in soil evaluation, inspection, and site analysis to join our engineering team. This position will play a key role in supporting our projects by performing soil sampling, field testing, and documentation that guides design and construction decisions. While a professional engineering (PE) license is not required, a strong technical background in geotechnical concepts is essential.
This is an in-office and field-based role with opportunities to visit project sites, conduct inspections, and collaborate with engineers to deliver high-quality solutions for our clients.
Responsibilities- Perform field investigations, including soil sampling, classification, and logging
- Conduct soil testing and inspection for site development, construction, and foundation projects
- Assist in preparing field reports, technical documentation, and recommendations for project teams
- Support geotechnical engineers with data collection, analysis, and documentation
- Coordinate with contractors, site supervisors, and engineering staff to ensure compliance with project specifications
- Maintain testing equipment and follow proper calibration and safety procedures
- Participate in quality control/assurance activities related to soils and construction materials
- Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction science, geology, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered
- 1–3 years of experience in soil testing, inspection, or construction materials testing preferred
- Knowledge of soil mechanics, compaction testing, and site evaluation methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and documentation
- Strong observational, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to work in outdoor field conditions and lift equipment/materials (up to 50 lbs)
- Valid driver s license and ability to travel to local project sites
