Volunteers of America‑Greater New York (VOA‑Greater New York) is an anti‑poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County, including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
We are seeking an Employment & Education Specialist to support young adults in a Transitional Living Program that prepares youth for independent adult life.
PositionThe Employment & Education Specialist ensures that the young adult has the work readiness skills to begin seeking employment or further education to become financially self‑sufficient upon completing the program. The role emphasizes job preparation, navigating housing options, and financial literacy.

Minimum Qualifications- Associate’s degree and at least one year of related experience providing employment/education services to low‑income and/or homeless populations.
- Knowledge of federal guidelines for public and private low‑income housing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record that meets agency policies.
- Provide weekly one‑on‑one support to help young adults complete high school or GED certificates, including re‑enrollment assistance.
- Assist youth in identifying and enrolling in postsecondary education or trade schools, including course selection and financial aid navigation.
- Support the set‑up of academic tutoring if needed and facilitate education assessment workshops.
- Facilitate employment workshops focused on job training, retention, goal setting, resume/cover letter development, and work readiness skills.
- Develop relationships with local businesses and employment agencies to secure internships and jobs that enhance long‑term economic security.
