Job Title: Part-Time Youth Center Lead
Location: East Orange, New Jersey
Schedule: 10 Hours Per Week
Position SummaryThe Youth Center Lead is responsible for supervising daily operations and programming at the Youth Center, providing leadership and mentorship to youth participants, and ensuring a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment. This role requires a positive, energetic individual who can manage groups, build rapport with young people, and support the mission of youth development.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and engage with youth ages 4-21 in various recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
- Plan, lead, and support daily programs including arts, games, sports, workshops, and tutoring sessions.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive space by enforcing center rules and addressing behavior issues appropriately.
- Serve as the on-site leader during assigned shifts, overseeing other part-time staff, volunteers, or interns.
- Build positive relationships with youth, families, and community partners.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors about needs, incidents, and program updates.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintenance of program spaces and supplies.
- Collect attendance data and participate in evaluations and staff meetings.
- Uphold organizational policies including safety, confidentiality, and mandated reporting.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience working with youth in a leadership, education, or mentoring role.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage groups and maintain a positive environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Must pass background checks and clearances as required by local or state regulations.
- Bilingual (especially Spanish or other relevant language) is a plus.
- Experience planning and facilitating youth-focused programs.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices or restorative justice approaches.
