Adjunct Faculty – Department of Special Education and Literacy
Kean University in Union, New Jersey invites applications for adjunct faculty positions for upcoming semesters. Positions are filled on an as‑needed basis, and qualified candidates may be contacted when an opening becomes available.

• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate‑level courses for the Department of Special Education and Literacy, including Human Exceptionality, Families as Collaborators, Classroom Management, Special Education Methods, Physiological Bases of Learning and Behavior, Assessment in Special Education, and Inclusive Educational Practices (IEP) & IEP Development.
• Provide in‑person instruction for undergraduate courses and meet the requirement to teach master’s level courses online.
• Maintain availability outside of class: for each full‑credit class, at least one hour per week; for each additional class, at least thirty minutes per week (in person or virtual). Provide additional office hours at the adjunct’s discretion.
• Adhere to New Jersey Professional Teaching Standards and Competencies and the New Jersey Administrative Code.

• Master’s degree in a related field (or ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D., or other acceptable doctorate) and teaching experience unless otherwise stated.
• Proficiency in a Learning Management System consistent with university guidelines.

Pay is $2,100 per credit (September 2025 rate) and increases to $2,225 per credit in September 2026. After the 13th semester taught, adjuncts receive an additional $75 per credit. Adjuncts are enrolled in the state‑administered retirement plan and may qualify for the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program.

Adjuncts teaching one or more full‑credit classes must provide at least one hour of availability outside the classroom per week (in person or virtual). The additional 30‑minute requirement applies for each extra class taught during a semester. Adjuncts teaching fewer than three credits must provide at least thirty minutes of availability per week. Office hours beyond the minimum requirements may be scheduled at the adjunct’s discretion.
