Position:
Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (40 hrs/wk)
Supervisor: Working Foreman
Grade: Grade 11
Hours: 7:30 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
Union: AFSCME 111
SummaryOperates heavy automotive equipment and performs manual tasks related to such operations; operates light-medium or special equipment as directed; performs related duties as required.
SupervisionWorks under the supervision of a Working Foreman or higher-grade employee, who assigns duties and inspects work.
Essential Duties- Drives or operates various heavy trucks, tractors, and equipment.
- Assists in construction, repair, and maintenance of highways, sewers, and other city properties.
- Operates additional heavy-duty equipment like compressors and pneumatic hammers.
- Maintains equipment through greasing and minor repairs.
- Performs manual tasks in construction, repair, and maintenance activities.
- Experience operating heavy motor equipment in various weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of traffic, safety, and accident prevention rules.
- Ability to perform minor repairs on heavy equipment.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License required.
- Experience with heavy automotive equipment and basic education or equivalent experience.
Requires physical effort, including lifting over 50 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, and using hands and fingers. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and focus adjustment. Noise levels vary from moderate to high. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
