HEAVY MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/LABORER – HIGHWAY

Hourly Salary Range: $27.51 - $31.69 (FY24) with CDL
Schedule: Sunday – Thursday
POSITION SUMMARY and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:
Under the direction of the DPW Director, Assistant Director, Supervisors, General Foreman, Working Foreman, and Maintenance Craftsman, the Heavy Motor Equipment Operator operates trucks with a rated capacity of 26,001 pounds (13 tons) or more, including large tractors, dump trucks, tree bucket trucks, etc. Load and unload trucks, pick up and hauls materials. Perform minor preventative maintenance on equipment. Required to operate snowplows, sanders, and motor equipment of a lower level of difficulty, as needed.
Perform necessary duties for the maintenance of all City streets and sidewalks. The Heavy Motor Equipment Operator must maintain a positive working relationship with all employees; and interactions with the City of Malden residents must always be courteous and professional. Additional duties include manual labor tasks and other duties carried out as needed and as directed by management. Must be available to work when called in during emergencies after regular work shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience;
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Candidates should have three (3) years of experience in performing winter operations; able to lift fifty (50 lbs.) pounds; and have working knowledge of road construction.
- Valid MA CDL, Class B with air brake endorsement required.
- Knowledge of concrete, asphalt, and excavation/compaction.
- Maintains strong and effective communication skills.
- Needs to be punctual and dependable.
