SPECIAL MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/LABORER - HIGHWAY

Hourly Salary Range: $24.39 - $28.39 (FY24) without CDL

Hourly Salary Range: $28.38 - $32.71 (FY24) with CDL

POSITION SUMMARY and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:

Under the direction of the DPW Director, Assistant Director, Supervisors, General Foreman, Working Foreman, the Special Motor Equipment Operator is required to operate any motor driven hydraulic equipment owned or leased by the department, including front end loaders, backhoe, any type of scoop or road grading equipment and hoisting equipment. Operates snowplows, sanders, dump trucks and operates motor equipment of a lower level of difficulty.

Grease, oil, clean, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment. Additional duties include manual labor tasks and other duties carried out as needed and as directed by management. The Special Motor Equipment Operator must maintain a positive working relationship with all employees; and interactions with the City of Malden residents must always be courteous and professional. Must be available to work when called in during emergencies after regular work shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience;
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Candidates should have three (3) years of experience in performing winter operations; able to lift fifty (50 lbs.) pounds; and have working knowledge of road construction.
• Valid MA CDL, Class B with air brake endorsement required or
• MA Commercial Learner’s Permit and the ability to obtain MA CDL, Class B within six (6) months from date of employment.
• Valid MA Hoisting Engineer License (1C/2A) required with the ability of running backhoes, front end loaders and excavators.
• Candidates should have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in operating hydraulic equipment capable of operating backhoe and loader.
• Maintains strong and effective communication skills.
• Needs to be punctual and dependable.
