American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring a PA or compact license and at least 2 years of acute care experience.
Details- Acute care hospital setting within a Float Pool that rotates between Med/Surg, Stepdown, IRU (Rehab), and ED holding units
- Med/Surg units care for post-surgical, orthopedic, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative, hospice, end-of-life, and low-volume chemo patients, with possible concurrent assignment of clean and COVID-positive patients
- Stepdown unit cares for heavy cardiac patients including dysrhythmias, CVAs, and downgrades from the ICU
- Patient ratios are 1:6-7 on Med/Surg units and 1:4-5 on Stepdown (1:6 if Med/Surg acuity applies)
- Uses EPIC EMR, with Stepdown unit transitioning from Cerner to EPIC
- Night shift schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week (7p-7:30a) with rotating weekends and holidays
- Weekend requirements include every other weekend, with additional Friday shift requirements on Med/Surg and Friday/Saturday/Sunday on Stepdown nights
- Floating limited to other Med/Surg units for Med/Surg staff, and to ICU as helping hands for Stepdown staff
- Stepdown unit serves as the hospital's central tele monitoring station, requiring RNs to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Must be able to titrate cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, and Dobutamine on Stepdown, with Heparin and comfort measure drips on Med/Surg
- Manages ventilated patients on Bipap, CPAP, and High Flow per Respiratory Therapy guidance
- In-house Hospitalist coverage 24/7 and Intensivist coverage in the ICU
- Active RN license - PA or compact license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current certifications: BLS required for all units, with ACLS and NIHSS additionally required for Stepdown
- EPIC EMR experience preferred due to ongoing system transition
- Must be comfortable managing both clean and COVID-positive patient assignments simultaneously when applicable
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 1 shift with a preceptor for Med/Surg units and 2 shifts with a preceptor for Stepdown
- Scrub color requirement is navy blue, including jackets if worn
- Holiday coverage required according to the permanent staff holiday rotation schedule
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital) as local travelers are not accepted
- Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have completed a 2-year break before reapplying, and cumulative traveler assignments within WVU cannot exceed one year before requiring a break
- Former permanent staff at Princeton Community, Potomac Valley, and Garrett Regional are not eligible to return as travelers
- All candidates are required to interview directly with the unit manager
