The appointment is anticipated to begin in August 2026. We seek a dynamic and innovative scholar who will develop a robust externally-funded research program and contribute to high-quality teaching in structural engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

About

the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Mississippi (UM)

The department offers high-quality graduate and undergraduate education and research programs in all core areas (construction, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources) of civil engineering, continuing a legacy of over 125 years. Its mission is to promote a vibrant, stimulating and engaging learning environment that supports critical thinking, pragmatism, growth of ethical character, and technical & communication skills. The research projects led by the department faculty exceeded $11 million during FY.

These projects were funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), departments of transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), among others. Two of the three research centers (CGRI and NCCHE), with state-of-the‑art equipment and computational facilities, within the School of Engineering are led by civil engineering faculty. In addition to scholarly excellence, internationally recognized faculty and students of the department engage and serve the civil engineering profession through American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI), among others.
