The purpose of this position is to supervise and work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting a crew in completing assigned projects, including but not limited to street maintenance, sidewalks, bridge maintenance, sign maintenance, and equipment repairs. Work is performed under the direction of the Street Supervisor, who issues work orders and inspects work in progress and upon completion for adherence to work orders and accepted standards of workmanship.
Crew Leaders are expected to complete routine assignments without detailed supervision.
- Supervises personnel and the use of equipment in the repair, resurfacing, back filling, patching, and maintenance of streets, bridges, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, drainage systems, sign installation, and street surface painting.
- Organizes and schedules all necessary resources required to accomplish job assignments and coordinate daily operational needs with the supervisor.
- Plans, distributes, monitors, and follows up on daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced per company standards.
- Manages end‑of‑day check‑in process, captures and communicates key services, safety, and equipment issues.
- Prepares written and oral reports.
- Conducts Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
- Performs other duties as required and/or performs inspections of completed work in the assigned area.
- Receives and resolves complaints related to activities in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Leads, directs, and assists personnel with daily functions and operations of a work crew, including securing necessary equipment, to ensure safe, effective, and efficient operations and completion of assigned projects.
- Ability to operate a variety of trucks, heavy equipment, and hand tools in the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets and related projects.
- Monitors and completes a variety of logs, documents, purchase requests, permits, and inventory tracking for materials, permissions, and equipment usage on all projects.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Between five and ten years of experience in performing related work.
- Some experience in the supervision of Labor Crews and the use of equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other programs.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and service operations, including some specialized knowledge.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and how they relate to the hazards and safety equipment of the work.
- Knowledge of standard and common construction practices and methods related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets and related projects.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to prioritize and allocate work.
- Ability to read and interpret documents related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets and related projects.
- Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, and the public to convey information and receive work.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Physical strength and ability to perform frequent standing, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and walking while performing assigned tasks.
- Valid, current CDL driver’s license.
