Summary

The DNP Program Coordinator serves as a key academic leader in the continued development and implementation of John Carroll University’s new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. Working collaboratively with the Director of Nursing, this faculty leader will guide the design and coordination of the DNP curriculum, build program infrastructure, and ensure alignment with academic, regulatory (CCNE), and mission-driven standards.
The ideal candidate will be a Nurse Practitioner (NP), with preference for those certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and/or those with strong graduate program development and leadership experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to innovation, academic excellence, shared governance, and student-centered leadership.
Appointment and Compensation

  • This is a 9-month Professor of Practice faculty position with required summer administrative responsibilities supported through an administrative stipend.
  • Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
  • A reduced teaching load will be provided to accommodate program coordination responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development & Coordination (Primary)

  • In conjunction with the Director of Nursing, provide leadership in the design, coordination, and implementation of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Nursing, Graduate Studies Office, and College of Health leadership to develop and manage program policies, procedures, and academic operations.
  • Lead the development of the DNP curriculum, course sequencing, and assessment plans in alignment with the AACN Essentials (2021) and CCNE accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate the completion and submission of all CCNE accreditation documentation, including self-study reports, systematic evaluation plans, and annual reports.
  • Partner with the Graduate Studies Office on admissions processes, student recruitment, and cohort selection to ensure strong enrollment and student outcomes.
  • Develop and sustain clinical partnerships with healthcare organizations to secure diverse and high-quality clinical placements for DNP students.
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy across all DNP program materials, including marketing content, the program handbook, website, and academic catalog.
  • Monitor student progression and program outcomes, facilitating timely resolution of individual or group concerns from both students and faculty.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to DNP faculty, supporting effective teaching, advising, and scholarly engagement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal university committees and external accrediting, regulatory bodies and clinical partners related to the DNP program.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and marketing efforts to strengthen the visibility, reputation, and sustainability of the DNP program.

Teaching & Advising (Secondary)

  • Maintain an active teaching role, shifting teaching focus to DNP-level courses within the coordinator’s area of clinical expertise once the DNP program has launched.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, with an emphasis on future DNP pathway advising.
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Work in close partnership with the Director of Nursing, College of Health Office and Graduate Studies Office to ensure strategic alignment between the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.
  • Participate in nursing department meetings, faculty development initiatives, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Assist with grant writing, simulation planning, or community-based initiatives as appropriate to program development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP, PhD, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Active, unencumbered RN license.
  • Demonstrated involvement in graduate curriculum design, academic leadership, or accreditation.
