Program Director

The Pennsylvania State University is searching for a teaching professor (any rank) to serve as Program Director for its new Bachelor of Science in Public Health program in the College of Health and Human Development (HHD). The faculty position is a 48-week appointment (non-tenure track) with expectations for excellence in teaching and academic and professional service, including administrative responsibilities.

The new B.S. in Public Health program will be a college-level program integrated across HHD's eight academic units. The Program Director will report to HHD's Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Outreach. The mission of the undergraduate program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to improve population health outcomes through careers in public health, and related fields, and/or to pursue professional or graduate education.

Students will develop the ability to identify and address biological, behavioral, social, environmental and structural determinants of public health to impact health inequities and promote health as a human right.

Requirements
  • MPH or Doctorate in Public Health, Global Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, Environmental Health, Health Policy, or related field at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, leadership positions, administrative oversight, and multidisciplinary collaborations
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to teaching, including experience teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, and applying creative teaching methods to promote active learning

We are particularly interested in candidates who are committed to teaching and service that addresses health disparities, antiracism, and equity related to population and community health.

As Program Director, the successful candidate will:
  • Lead the overall operation of the B.S. in Public Health program including curriculum development, course scheduling, oversight of teaching and learning, and student and alumni outcomes and relations
  • Lead program assessment and accreditation, including serving as liaison with the Council on Education in Public Health
  • Support all aspects of student services including fieldwork and other engaged learning opportunities for students with the College's student and career engagement staff, student recruitment with the College's Recruiting Director, and student advising, engagement, retention, and success in collaboration with the College's Center for Student Advising and Engagement and Office of Undergraduate Education
As a faculty member, the successful candidate will:
  • Teach in the B.S. in Public Health program and potentially in additional academic units in HHD, based on the interest and expertise
  • Engage in academic and professional service, consistent with the University's expectations for service to the University, public, and profession that recognizes and incorporates the public health needs of diverse populations

The distribution of program development, administration, and teaching is expected to shift over time as the Public Health program is built.
