Instructional Designer, Teaching and Learning with Technology team
The Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) team within the University Libraries is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to help us create the next generation of faculty learning experiences focused on the ability to leverage technology and pedagogy that are agile, innovative, and aligns with digital fluency.
Digital Fluency is defined as the ability to create new knowledge, address new challenges, and solve problems by leveraging appropriate technologies in any educational context to promote student learning.
Working as part of an innovative team, the Instructional Designer will design, develop, and facilitate engaging faculty-focused professional development events and resources with an emphasis on advancing student learning while simultaneously taking advantage of emerging technology affordances.
Some of those areas include, but are not limited to, digital prototyping, data visualization, digital storytelling, artificial intelligence, data informed pedagogy, and creating learning in immersive experiences.
The Instructional Designer will have opportunities to collaborate with TLT staff who are actively working on projects related to artificial intelligence, technology-enhanced learning spaces, immersive experiences, open educational resources, and other creative learning projects, all designed to improve the Penn State student experience.
The person in this role will foster collaboration and community amongst faculty innovators, build collaborative relationships with peers, and support evidence-based practices related to teaching and learning innovation through technology across all campuses within our Commonwealth. Regular travel is required in this role.
Additionally, this position will contribute to the ongoing advancement of existing university engagements and actively follow trends in learning technologies and explore technologies that advance learning.
Another responsibility of the Instructional Designer includes (but is not limited to) utilizing their data and research background to support the team's research and research goals. This involves assisting the team in their own data efforts.
Education and ExperienceThis position will be filled at the level of Advanced Professional, which requires a minimum of a Master's degree and three years of relevant experience.
The ideal candidate will have classroom teaching experience, an understanding of teaching with technology, experience working with university faculty, excellent design skills, experience designing and delivering workshops around best practices, and excellent abilities in coordinating multiple engagement opportunities across a wide range of locations.
A foundational knowledge of design theory is essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
This position has the expectation of regular onsite presence; however, it offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work.
