RF Research and Development Engineer
Join the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University to work on cutting‑edge RF propagation projects, from ELF to millimeter‑wave frequencies.
Responsibilities- Use accepted methods to design, develop, and implement RF propagation models, including environmental effects such as space weather and meteorology.
- Develop novel techniques in RF propagation, including mathematical derivations of electromagnetic phenomena and relevant environmental factors.
- Conduct laboratory and field experiments to test, prove, or modify theoretical propositions, collecting, compiling, and processing data.
- Document data and findings in technical reports, documents, and presentations.
- Create opportunities to improve RF propagation modeling and analysis capability through new methods or application extensions.
- Provide innovative problem‑solving approaches to enhance modeling and analysis capabilities, leveraging peer networks.
- Learn strategic objectives and applications of RF propagation modeling, developing relationships with sponsors and developing grant funding.
- Research and initiate follow‑on projects, contribute to technical proposals, and present to customers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science related discipline;
Master’s or Ph.D. in Mathematics or Electrical Engineering preferred. - Experience in RF propagation mathematical methods and implementation of new and established techniques.
- Proven ability to document research findings in white papers and technical reports.
- Ability to independently implement scientific or technical solutions with guidance from mentors.
- End‑to‑end design, implementation, and testing experience of technical and scientific solutions.
- Effective presentation skills to senior level professionals.
- Fluent in multiple scientific programming languages (Matlab, Python, C++, FORTRAN) with strong applied mathematics and numerical implementation skills.
- Current active security clearance.
- Ability to learn new programming languages, tools, mathematical techniques, and numerical implementations.

SalarySalary range: $76,700.00 – $ (may be impacted by geographic differential)
