Overview
The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to perform research under the direction of Professor Doug Wolfe (Materials Science & Engineering) and Professor Aman Haque (Mechanical Engineering).
Responsibilities- Perform electrical characterization on semiconductor devices as a function of radiation exposure. The specimens are discrete wide bandgap devices (diodes and transistors) as well as larger systems (field programmable gate arrays, memory).
- Collaborate with national lab(s) to perform experiments that mimic ionizing radiation.
- Perform modeling and/or experimental analysis (microscopy, spectroscopy) to investigate the fundamentals of radiation effects in electronics.
- Analyze data.
- Disseminate findings in journals and conferences.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Applicants should have a Ph.D. as of the hire date in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical/Materials/Nuclear Engineering or related discipline.
- Excellent foundation in semiconductor device physics and reliability.
- Hands-on experience with device and system (discrete devices to FPGA) characterization.
- Experience in radiation effects (single event, total ionizing dose, displacement damage) is very helpful.
- Excellent written/oral communication skills.
This is a postdoctoral position, funded for one year from the date of hire, with an excellent possibility of renewal pending available funding and satisfactory performance.
