Assistant Director of Athletic Strategic Communications Position Specifics
Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Director of Strategic Communications. The Assistant Director of Communications will serve as the primary communications and social media contact for field hockey, women's lacrosse, and women's gymnastics, and as the secondary women's basketball contact.
Essential Functions- Strategic Communications: manage website and administer social media platforms for assigned sports; develop written content (features and press releases); coordinate media interviews, develop game notes, pitch stories to local media; assist with awards nominations; develop record books.
- Game management: issue media credentials; conduct postgame press conferences; manage press box and coordinate with marketing, event management, and Lion Vision groups; coordinate live updates.
- Statistics: run stats programs; keep stats during competitions; maintain statistical records; provide stats to media, coaches, and opponents.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Spark, etc.), website CMS, social media platforms, and Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats preferred.
- Experience in photography, recording and editing video desired.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance required.
- Position requires initiative, creativity and independence.
- Work‑related experience in communications or public relations required.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or a related field.
Minimum Education , Work Experience & Required CertificationsMarketing and Communications Specialist – Advanced Professional:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
- No required certifications.
Marketing and Communications Specialist – Intermediate Professional:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1+ year of relevant experience or equivalent combination
- No required certifications.
Employment requires successful completion of background check(s). This position requires driving; a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle records check required.
Salary & BenefitsThe salary range is $46,400.00 – $74,000.00.
