Job Description - FRESHMAN SUCCESS COACH (T231453)
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a FRESHMAN SUCCESS COACH to support at-risk students by providing proactive coaching and targeted interventions to address academic and personal barriers. The coach will assist with action planning, facilitate workshops, and monitor grades to improve student success and retention. The role will collaborate with campus partners, including advisors and faculty, and may also facilitate future Blazer Boost courses.
The coach will report to the Executive Director of Retention Initiatives to ensure alignment with broader student success goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works with at-risk students in the Blazer Boost program, providing proactive, developmental coaching to address academic and personal barriers, through targeted interventions, to improve student success and retention rates.
- Assists with action planning to support at-risk students in overcoming barriers such as time management, motivation, note taking, and study strategies.
- Conducts workshops tailored to the needs of at-risk students, monitors grades in real time to ensure accountability, and likely facilitates future Blazer Boost FYE courses.
- Collaborates with campus partners, including VMASC, advisors, and faculty, to align services with student needs.
- Reports directly to the Executive Director of Retention Initiatives to maintain alignment with broader student success initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
