The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is hiring an early-career Mechanical Engineer for its Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group. The role involves developing viable mechanical system and component designs for space payloads, creating detailed engineering documents and CAD drawings, reviewing engineering drawings, and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineers to build high‑reliability systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing mechanical systems and components based on project requirements and specifications.
- Assisting with manufacturing, maintenance, sustainment, and operational support of payload systems for space applications.
- Developing detailed engineering documents and CAD drawings for fabrication and assembly.
- Reviewing and checking engineering drawings for adherence to technical specifications.
- Communicating effectively to guide fabrication and assembly efforts.
- Collaborating with engineers from other disciplines.
- Participating in meetings, teleconferences, and traveling as required.
Annual Salary: $67,070 – $108,990
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience does not substitute for the education requirement.
