Job Title: STERILE SUPPLY TECHNICIAN-SOD (T229032)

(Hourly Rate: $15.00 - $16.14)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a STERILE SUPPLY TECHNICIAN-SOD to operate all sterilizing equipment according to current regulations. The role monitors and reports technical problems with equipment and autoclaves, maintains proper inventory of sterilization chemicals and supplies, and collects, cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and/or sterilizes dental instruments, trays and packs, and patient care equipment to ensure sterility and functionality.

The position may include hand washing and cold sterilization of equipment as indicated per CDC sterilization guidelines. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role that requires attention to detail, reliability, and adherence to strict infection control protocols. Prior experience in a dental or medical setting is helpful but not required; training is provided.

This position plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient clinical environment. The Sterilization Technician ensures all dental instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use by faculty, staff, and students.

• Operate all sterilizing equipment according to current regulations.
• Monitor and report technical problems with equipment and autoclaves.
• Keep proper inventory of sterilization chemicals and supplies.
• Collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize dental instruments, trays and packs, and patient care equipment to ensure sterility and functionality.
• Hand wash and cold sterilize equipment as indicated per CDC sterilization guidelines.

• High School diploma or GED and one (1) year experience in Sterile Supply required.
• Currently Certified as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) with the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) preferred.
• The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, the ability to follow strict protocols, and familiarity with infection control standards in a clinical or dental setting. Soft skills such as reliability, effective communication, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment are also highly valued.
