LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES ACCESSIBILITY MANAGER (T231082)
UAB seeks a highly skilled manager for digital accessibility in course materials to help us not only comply with Title II requirements but promote Universal Design for Learning principles throughout the university. Working in the Office of Learning Technologies within the Center for Teaching and Learning, the manager will lead the office's efforts to assist faculty and academic units with ensuring course materials are fully accessible as well as provide training on best practices.
This is a full-time, one-year appointment funded for the initial term, with potential for renewal based on program priorities and available funding. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make an immediate and meaningful impact by helping UAB strengthen accessibility standards for digital course materials.
Salary Range$57,940 to $94,150
Responsibilities- Creates and leads workshops for faculty and staff on creating and remediating digital course materials for Title II compliance.
- Functions as the secondary administrator of the Canvas‑embedded tool for auditing online courses for accessibility issues.
- Keeps the Director informed of progress and issues in the effort to assure accessible course material campus wide.
- Assists academic unit leaders in keeping track of compliance rates and issues in their unit.
- Meets with individual faculty to resolve course accessibility issues as needed.
- Keeps current with accessibility laws and standards.
- Assists in maintaining a knowledge base on accessibility tools and methods for creating and remediating accessible course materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in disability services, digital media, computer science, or related field and two (2) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for degree requirement.
Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital materials and general support services for people with disabilities. Advanced computer skills and familiarity with a range of software tools for creating and remediating digital course materials. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead workshops for faculty. Experience with learning management systems. Experience with Canvas a plus.
