PositionSummary
Audubon Florida supports management of beach‑nesting birds across the Gulf Coast and Northeast Atlantic Coast of Florida. This seasonal Shorebird Anchor Steward will work at beach‑nesting bird sites in Lee County, Florida. The primary responsibility is to coordinate and train volunteers to monitor nesting birds and conduct public outreach around the sea/shorebird nesting areas.
Compensation$19.00 per hour
Responsibilities- Conduct public outreach at nesting beaches on weekends and holidays.
- Monitor nesting birds and conduct minimum weekly counts of nests, chicks, and fledged young.
- Assist with installing symbolic fencing around new nest areas.
- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers to chaperone nesting birds.
- Work closely with site managers and external partners in a positive professional manner.
- Maintain a culture of safety.
- Comfortable speaking to groups and engaging audiences.
- Record‑keeping and summarizing data for grant‑required reports.
- Experience recruiting, training, supporting, and scheduling volunteers.
- Work well independently and with others.
- Positive, diplomatic attitude.
- Comfortable working outdoors in sandy beach environments and handling field equipment up to 30 lb.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays during nesting season.
- Preferred: experience with a sea/shorebird nesting season.
- Comfortable with boating; motorboat experience preferred.
- Adaptability and problem‑solving skills.
- Interest in conservation and passion for Audubon’s mission.
