Overview
The Research Security Program Assistant will report to the Director of Research Security in the Office of Research Security. This position provides support for the Research Security program at the university, ensuring compliance with applicable federal laws and regulations. This role assists in triaging information and reports related to foreign influence inquiries, concerns, and complaints, and supports the development and delivery of training and guidance on foreign influence, federal sponsor disclosure standards, insider threat awareness, and controlled-unclassified research requirements.
Responsibilities- Assist the Director of Research Security and team with the daily functions of the research security compliance program.
- Review organizational activities for foreign influence implications and coordinate with other departments to complete foreign influence reviews.
- Create reports on university international activities and maintain foreign influence tracking systems, databases, and documentation.
- Assist with creating and delivering foreign influence compliance education and training.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders and groups.
- Serve as a resource to the research community and administrative offices on inquiries related to research security, international collaborations, and engagements with foreign entities; triage to appropriate team members as needed.
- Act as administrator for a central email inbox for the Office of Research Security.
- Monitor federal regulatory changes affecting research security and update policies, processes, and programs related to the foreign influence area.
- Assist in developing and implementing training for the university to conduct restricted research programs within the portfolio.
- Coordinate training sessions and workshops with Office of Research Security staff.
- Assist with website content, newsletter preparation, and training materials in all areas of foreign influence and sponsor disclosure requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of full-time relevant responsible experience in research security compliance, sponsored programs, research, conflict of interest/commitment, undue foreign influence or other appropriate administrative support background.
- In lieu of a Bachelor's degree and one year of experience, any combination of relevant education and experience totaling five (5) years may be considered (relevant experience may reflect research administration, research compliance, foreign influence, sponsored programs administration, or other appropriate administrative support background).
- General knowledge of federally funded research requirements.
- Experience with presentation tools such as PowerPoint, Google Sheets, etc.
- Experience with federal regulatory requirements or research compliance related to research security, including foreign influence and sponsor disclosure requirements.
- Experience developing training materials.
- Experience organizing information and data into a report.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience working in a large complex organization such as a large university, hospital, or large not-for-profit.
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to fellowship policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines, and funding availability. This is an FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for overtime. The starting salary range is provided below.
