About the Role
Our client is seeking an innovative Energy Storage Systems Engineer to join their team in Upington, Northern Cape . This role is at the heart of developing and implementing advanced energy storage solutions that are crucial for stabilizing the grid and integrating renewable energy sources within the Energy sector . You will be involved in the design, simulation, and deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other storage technologies.
This hybrid position offers a chance to work on cutting-edge projects that are shaping the future of energy reliability and sustainability in a region increasingly powered by renewables.
- Design and engineer integrated energy storage systems for grid-scale and distributed applications.
- Perform system modeling and simulation for battery energy storage systems (BESS), including performance and lifetime analysis.
- Develop control strategies and algorithms for optimal operation of energy storage systems.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors, project teams, and grid operators on system integration and commissioning.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and performance requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to energy storage system performance and reliability.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a specialization in energy storage.
- Proficiency in BESS modeling software and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PSS/E).
- Strong understanding of battery chemistries, power electronics, and control systems for storage applications.
- Experience with grid interconnection standards and power market requirements for storage.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
