Senior Environmental Scientist - Energy Projects

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to join their team supporting energy projects in the Upington region. This role is crucial for ensuring that all energy development activities comply with environmental regulations and sustainability best practices. You will conduct environmental impact assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and oversee monitoring programs to minimize ecological footprints. The hybrid work model allows for effective collaboration, blending on-site fieldwork and site assessments with remote data analysis, report writing, and strategic planning, contributing to responsible energy development.

• Conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and baseline studies for new energy infrastructure projects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans, including mitigation and monitoring strategies.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental regulations, permits, and standards.
• Oversee environmental monitoring programs, analyze data, and prepare technical reports for regulatory agencies and project stakeholders.
• Provide expert advice on environmental risks and opportunities related to energy development, including biodiversity conservation and pollution control.

• Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental consulting or management, with a strong focus on energy projects (e.g., renewable energy, mining, infrastructure).
• In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation, impact assessment processes, and ecological principles.
• Proficiency in environmental modeling software and GIS tools.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
